Wanning off prescription medications (SSRIs and benzodiazepines) for depression and anxiety are a huge contributor to the positive momentum in my recovery journey and current state of mental, physical and spiritual wellness. I took medications for about 15 years. I shared my pharmaceutical rollercoaster ride – in hopes that it will resonate with others – in an article in the The Minnesota Star Tribune.

For most of my life, I was never keen or enthusiastic about making New Year’s Resolutions. The past few years, however, my attitude has changed.

If you would have told me that I’d be giving inspirational speeches to patients at Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation and EOSIS Beauterre Recovery Institute just a few years ago, I would have laughed out loud.

After 2 years of dedication and training, I hit 315 on the bench press. It's a feat that less than .1 percent of the population can perform.
