I’ve always wanted to write a book, but I never invested the time and effort to bring the dream to fruition. Through the years, I started multiple outlines and penned several chapters that never went anywhere beyond a kernel of an idea. Now that I’m in recovery, I’m firing on all cylinders and finally turned my novelist fantasy into a concrete reality. My book A Fragile Utopia: Escaping the Elaborate Façade of Alcoholic Bliss is officially out on eBook, paperback, hardcover and Audible.
They say to write about what you know, and that’s exactly what I did. I wrote a memoir – sprinkled with a dash of self-help – that chronicles my journey through alcohol abuse into recovery. I dive into guilt/remorse, patterns of abuse and eventual redemption. My story also offers a glimpse into early recovery – how it works, challenges faced, analysis of recovery dogma/programs and why sobriety is a worthy endeavor.
A Fragile Utopia is an honest portrait of addiction. I do not attempt to sugar coat my past or patterns of problematic behavior. I share my story in hopes that others can learn from my trials and tribulations. My hope is that someone struggling, can choose a better path – or identify a similar pattern – and make a change. Perhaps they may also learn how a life free of alcohol can yield a renewed sense of hope and meaning. I’ve gotten feedback that my book is a useful tool for loved ones of those who are struggling as well. It’s a serious story, but there are entertaining moments in the journey. You may even laugh a few times.
Thanks for the support as the book has gone live. The launch has been great – with a good amount of sales on all platforms, and more importantly, outreach from people who are struggling or their loved ones. Hopefully, I can give them a few breadcrumbs worth keeping.
